About us
Welcome to the Human Factors Interest Group (HFIG), affiliated with the Human Factors Laboratories in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. HFIG is a student chapter of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES). HFIG members consist of students and faculty members that are affiliated with the University of Toronto and local professionals who are interested in the field of Human Factors. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the membership in HFIG is free. It's easy to sign up, and details are available here.
Human Factors Laboratories
-
Cognitive Engineering Laboratory [ Prof Greg Jamieson Prof Kim Vicente ]
The Cognitive Engineering Laboratory (CEL) focuses on the implementation and management of complex socio-technical systems. Research topics include human cognition, trust in automation, and adaptation to novel environmental changes. -
Ergonomics in Teleoperation and Control Laboratory [ Prof Paul Milgram ]
The Ergonomics in Teleoperation and Control (ETC) laboratory investigates the augmentation of human perceptual and control abilities through technology. Example research topics include visual signal detection in 'noisy' environments, sensorimotor coordination with 'mirrored' controls, and application of subconscious visual cues to signalling systems. -
Human Factors and Applied Statistics Laboratory [ Prof Birsen Donmez ]
The Human Factors and Applied Statistics (HFASt) laboratory conducts research on understanding and improving human behaviour and performance in multi-task and complex situations, using a wide range of analytical techniques. Research topics include surface transportation, healthcare, mining, and unmanned vehicle supervisory control. -
Interactive Media Laboratory [ Prof Mark Chignell ]
The Interactive Media Lab (IML) conducts research into emerging information technology systems' interfaces, usability, and design. Focus topics include healthcare, knowledge management, ubiquitious computing, and personalization of software to match individual differences.
